The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has debunked reports suggesting that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is currently on strike, reaffirming that public tertiary institutions across Nigeria remain open and operational.
Speaking in Abuja, Dr. Alausa credited the sustained stability in the sector to ongoing dialogue, mutual respect, and a phased approach to addressing staff demands.
“It is not by coincidence that Nigerian public tertiary institutions have remained open and stable for the past two years—something that has not happened in several decades,” he said. “This is a reflection of our government’s unwavering commitment to maintaining cordial relationships with all stakeholders in the education sector.”
Dr. Alausa emphasized that staff welfare is a core priority under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, adding that the administration is committed to human capital development.
“Our children are the heartbeat of the nation, and their uninterrupted education is non-negotiable. The Federal Government will continue to engage all unions in the education sector to ensure the gates of our institutions remain open.”
He urged the public to disregard misinformation about an ongoing ASUU strike, describing the current industrial peace in universities as a joint success that must be preserved.
