Egyptian authorities, coordinating closely with their Sudanese counterparts, have secured the safe return of Egyptians abducted by Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Acting on directives from President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, officials transferred the abducted nationals from central Khartoum’s conflict zones to Port Sudan, ensuring their prompt repatriation.
This development follows earlier incidents in the ongoing Sudanese conflict, which erupted in April 2023 over disputes between the Sudanese army and the RSF. At that time, Egyptian soldiers involved in joint military training in Sudan were detained by RSF forces at Merowe Airbase.
The war, characterized by deep divisions and severe casualties, has left the country fractured— with the Sudanese army holding the north and east, while the RSF controls significant portions of Darfur and the southern regions.
