The Enugu State Government has announced a restriction of movement across six local government areas in Enugu North Senatorial District ahead of Saturday’s by-election.
The directive, issued in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Chidiebere Onyia, applies to Igbo-Etiti, Igbo-Eze North, Igbo-Eze South, Nsukka, Udenu and Uzo-Uwani LGAs.
According to the statement, the restriction will run from 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on election day to ensure the peaceful and orderly conduct of the poll.
It said only officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), accredited security personnel, election observers, journalists and other duly authorised individuals will be exempted.
Security agencies have been directed to enforce strict compliance with the order across the affected areas.
The government urged residents to remain peaceful, law-abiding and to participate responsibly in the electoral process.
It also called on political parties, candidates and their supporters to avoid any actions that could disrupt the exercise before, during or after the election.
Authorities expressed appreciation for public cooperation and wished residents a smooth and credible by-election.
