Ex-NNPC GMD Sues EFCC, CBN, and Bank over $9.8m Seizure

Former Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Andrew Yakubu, has taken legal action against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and a commercial bank over the alleged refusal to release $9.8 million belonging to him.

Yakubu, through his counsel, Ahmed Raji, filed a suit before Justice Inyang Ekwo of a Federal High Court in Abuja.

He asked the court to order the release of the funds, which were seized during an anti-graft raid in his residence in Kaduna in 2017, and were recently subject to a court judgment in his favor.

However, the EFCC has filed a notice of preliminary objection, arguing that the court lacks jurisdiction to entertain the matter and that the suit constitutes an abuse of court process.

The matter has been adjourned until May 18 for hearing.
