FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, and 6 Area Council Chairmen in Trouble as House of Representatives Calls for Disciplinary Action

The House of Representatives has called for sanctions against Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and six Area Council Chairmen for alleged insubordination and disregard for the legislative body. The lawmakers are angry over the minister and council chairmen’s refusal to appear before the House Committee on FCT Area Councils and Ancillary Matters, despite invitations. The committee has threatened to withhold approval of funds for the minister and council chairmen, and to recommend Wike’s removal as FCT minister. The lawmakers view the action as a breach of constitutional responsibilities and a disservice to the people they serve. This move comes after the committee discovered that the area councils had not executed any projects despite receiving huge allocations.
