The Federal Ministry of Works has banned commercial motorcycles and tricycles from operating on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as part of measures to protect the newly completed infrastructure.

The restriction, which takes effect this week, was announced in a statement on Sunday by the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Mr Olufemi Dare.

Dare said the decision was aimed at preventing misuse of the highway and preserving its structural integrity.

He also announced a ban on indiscriminate parking of trucks and articulated vehicles along the coastal highway and on bridges across Lagos State.

The ministry further prohibited the indiscriminate disposal of refuse along highway corridors, warning that violators would face enforcement actions.

According to Dare, road signs outlining the new restrictions have been installed, while task force officials will be deployed to strategic points to ensure compliance.

He described the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as a world-class infrastructure that must be properly maintained for the benefit of Nigerians.

Dare urged motorists and other road users to comply with the directives, stressing that protecting the highway would enhance its lifespan and ensure public safety.
