Late on Friday, an apartment building inside the palace of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, was gutted by fire.
The incident, which was said to have occurred around 11:30 p.m., was triggered by a power surge that caused electrical appliances to explode, according to the Ooni’s spokesperson, Moses Olafare.
The fire did not spread to other parts of the palace and was successfully extinguished by the State Fire Service Department and that of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
No injuries or casualties were reported, and no cultural items were lost.
