The High Commission of Canada to Nigeria, situated on Diplomatic Drive in Abuja’s Central Business District, was engulfed in flames on Monday, causing potential disruption to the services and consultations typically offered by the office.
The exact origin of the fire remains shrouded in mystery, and authorities, including the police and sister agencies, are diligently working to unravel the cause of the incident. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries have been reported at this time. First responders are presently evaluating the extent of the damage.
While the police spokesperson, Istifanus Bako, confirmed the fire’s occurrence, there are no indications of what triggered the fire that temporarily cast a shadow over the Canadian High Commission’s operations.
In a somewhat related but separate incident, the Head of Operations of the FCT Fire Service, Amiola Adebayo, reported a fire that resulted in two fatalities, with three or four other individuals rushed to the hospital. However, Adebayo did not provide details regarding the cause of the fire or the nationality of the affected victims. Both of these events have left many questions unanswered, and investigations are ongoing.
