The French government has lauded Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for its remarkable achievements in combating illicit drugs. French Ambassador to Nigeria, Marc Fonbaustier, commended the agency’s performance—highlighting 57,792 arrests, 9.9 million kilograms of drug seizures, and 10,572 convictions in just four years—during a visit to NDLEA headquarters in Abuja.

While handing over operational equipment donated by France to NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), Fonbaustier stated, “You are among the best in the world in the fight against illicit drugs and narcotics. Your operational successes set NDLEA apart, and we can learn from each other in this battle.”

In his remarks, Brig. Gen. Marwa expressed gratitude for the donation, emphasizing that the equipment will significantly enhance the agency’s operations. He also reiterated NDLEA’s request for specialized training in investigations and cyber transactions, as well as further support for its Alternative Development Project, which aims to help cannabis farmers transition to alternative livelihoods.

The award of equipment underscores the strong partnership between Nigeria and France, a relationship that has grown stronger following President Bola Tinubu’s recent state visit.
