Femi Gbajabiamila, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, has officially resigned from his membership in the 10th House.
The resignation came as a surprise to many as Gbajabiamila presented his resignation letter during a session on Wednesday.
The letter was read aloud by the newly-sworn in speaker, Tajudeen Abbas.
Gbajabiamila’s decision to step down is linked to his forthcoming role as the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, which he is expected to assume today.
This comes after his recent inauguration, along with his fellow colleagues, just the day before.
With Gbajabiamila’s departure from the position of Speaker, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will conduct a fresh election to select a new candidate to fill the vacancy.
