On Friday, the Igbo Biafra Nationalists (IBN) commemorated the late Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, former President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, for his relentless fight against injustices faced by the Igbo people.

Speaking to journalists in Owerri, IBN convener Uche Mefor expressed deep sorrow over Iwuanyanwu’s death, acknowledging his crucial role in championing the rights and welfare of the South-East region.

Mefor highlighted Iwuanyanwu’s revolutionary efforts to address the socio-economic and political subjugation of the Igbo within Nigeria. “Chief Iwuanyawu’s loss is profound, not merely due to his role as President-General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, but for his unwavering dedication to confronting longstanding injustices against the Igbo people. He created a comprehensive plan and established collaborative structures with South-East political leaders to address these issues with steadfast resolve,” Mefor stated.

Iwuanyanwu’s initiatives included fostering economic integration and development within Alaigbo and challenging discriminatory policies against the South-East region. “His leadership and vision were pivotal, embodying a unique combination of foresight and dedication crucial for the Igbo Nation. He was committed to implementing strategic proposals for self-determination and justice,” Mefor added.

Mefor called on South-East governors, legislators, and the next President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo to uphold and advance Iwuanyanwu’s legacy. “It is imperative to sustain and enhance his vision for the South-East region and the Igbo Nation,” he emphasized.
