The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has directed the implementation of round-the-clock security measures to safeguard public spaces nationwide during the Easter festivities, with particular focus on train stations, airports, and motorparks.
According to a statement by Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, all State Commissioners of Police and their supervising Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General of Police have been instructed to deploy personnel and operational assets to potential security threat areas within their respective jurisdictions.
The directive includes intensive visibility patrols at worship centers, highways, waterways, recreation centers, financial institutions, and other critical infrastructure locations.
Assuring Nigerians of the Police Force’s commitment to ensuring safety and security during Easter, the IGP emphasized increased deployments and intensified patrols across all mediums of travel, including roads, air, waterways, and rail.
The statement underscored the importance of professional conduct among deployed officers, with an emphasis on courteousness to law-abiding citizens and firm action against criminal elements exploiting the festive period.
As Easter approaches, the IGP extended felicitations to Nigerians, particularly the Christian community, urging continued cooperation with security agencies by providing timely and actionable information to prevent and combat crime.
Amidst commemorations of Jesus Christ’s crucifixion, death, and resurrection, the statement called for unity and vigilance to ensure a safe and peaceful environment for all citizens.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to public service and urged the public to remain vigilant, reporting any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
