Due to BVAS Machine Reconfiguration Delay and Legal Challenge to Presidential Election
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced a significant development regarding the governorship and state assembly elections.
The commission has decided to postpone the elections initially scheduled for Saturday, March 11 to March 18, 2023, subject to any further changes.
According to reports, the postponement is a result of the commission’s inability to commence reconfiguration of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines used during the February 25 presidential election to facilitate their use in the state elections.
Additionally, it has been reported that INEC was initially restrained from tampering with the information embedded in the BVAS machines until a thorough inspection was conducted and Certified True Copies (CTC) issued to candidates who contested the results of the presidential election.
