Iran’s military command on Monday announced the suspension of its operation against Israel, hours after the two countries exchanged fire for the first time since a ceasefire took effect in April.

In a statement carried by Iranian state television, the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters said Iran had delivered what it described as a “painful response” to Israel and would cease military operations.

“Iran has delivered a painful response to the Zionist regime and accordingly, the cessation of armed forces operations is hereby announced,” the statement said.

However, the military warned that any further attacks or hostile actions would trigger a stronger response.

“Should acts of aggression and hostility continue, including in southern Lebanon, much more severe and crushing measures than before will follow,” it added.

The announcement comes amid heightened tensions in the region despite efforts to maintain the truce that has largely held since April. The latest exchange of fire had raised concerns about a possible escalation between the two longtime adversaries.
