Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have launched a massive airstrike campaign in Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah strongholds. Since yesterday morning, the IDF has hit over 1,500 targets in more than 200 areas, including 400 medium-range rocket launchers, 70 arms depots, and 80 drones and cruise missiles. The strikes have primarily focused on homes storing Hezbollah munitions, with over 250 fighter jets dropping around 2,000 munitions.
Despite Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s warning to civilians to leave Hezbollah military sites, reports indicate significant civilian collateral damage. Eyewitnesses describe destroyed homes, hospitals, and infrastructure, with multiple civilian casualties.
“The strikes were relentless, and we couldn’t distinguish between military and civilian targets,” said a Beirut resident.
The IDF’s operation aims to destroy Hezbollah’s capabilities and change the security landscape in northern Israel. This military action is part of an ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, a Lebanese Shia Islamist political and military organization.
Humanitarian organizations have raised concerns about the escalating humanitarian crisis, with thousands displaced and critical infrastructure damaged.
“We urge all parties to prioritize civilian safety and adhere to international humanitarian law,” said a spokesperson for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
Key targets hit by the IDF include:
400 medium-range rocket launchers
70 arms depots
80 drones and cruise missiles
Total targets: over 1,500
Areas affected: more than 200
The situation remains tense, with the IDF vowing to continue strikes against Hezbollah. The international community is closely monitoring the situation, with concerns about potential regional escalation and a deepening humanitarian crisis.
