The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, has announced that sanctions will be imposed on underage candidates in the ongoing 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration.

Oloyede, who monitored the registration process across various centres in Lagos on Friday, revealed that out of the 780,202 candidates registered so far, 11,512 were underage. He noted that JAMB had allowed exceptionally brilliant students under 16 years to register but said the opportunity was being abused.

“We will impose some penalties on them. It would have been better for them to wait their turn because they are going to waste their money,” Oloyede stated.

He disclosed that on Friday alone, 443 out of 18,813 registered candidates were underage, highlighting a trend far beyond expected numbers.

Oloyede also reported that the registration process has been seamless, with no plans for an extension. He said JAMB had exceeded its daily registration target of 60,000 candidates, recording up to 100,000 registrations on some days.

“We budgeted for 60,000 per day, but from the third day, we started recording 80,000 to 90,000 daily. Yesterday, we registered close to 100,000. By Monday, which marks two weeks of registration, we expect to surpass one million registered candidates out of the projected two million,” he added.

Oloyede assured that the registration process would conclude on schedule, with no disruptions anticipated.
