Police operatives in Katsina State have neutralised a notorious bandit, Audu Kushin of Tsamiyar Maigoro village, and rescued five kidnapped victims during a late-night operation in Malumfashi Local Government Area.

The command’s spokesman, DSP Abubakar Aliyu, confirmed the development in a statement released Saturday. According to him, the incident occurred on May 22 around 10:15 p.m., when bandits launched coordinated attacks on Unguwar Lado and Karo villages.

Responding to a distress call, a team led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Malumfashi engaged the assailants in a gun battle. One of the bandits, identified as Audu Kushin, was killed in the exchange of fire.

While five kidnapped victims were successfully rescued, Aliyu said they sustained gunshot injuries during the ordeal. All victims were rushed to the General Hospital in Malumfashi for treatment.

The police have launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspects and urged residents to continue providing actionable intelligence to help combat rising insecurity in the state.

“We call on the public to support us with timely information for prompt and decisive action against all forms of criminality,” DSP Aliyu said.
