In a display of compassion and solidarity, the Kebbi State Government has pledged its unwavering support to the victims affected by a devastating rainstorm that wreaked havoc on over 100 houses in Zauro town, located in the Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area.

During a heartfelt visit to the affected victims in Zauro town, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafidan Yauri, conveyed the empathetic message on behalf of Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu.

Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafida expressed profound sympathy to the people of Zauro, assuring them that the government, under the able leadership of Dr. Nasir Idris, would swiftly implement relief measures to alleviate their hardship.

I want to assure you that the Government will extend relief assistance to the victims. It has been the consistent tradition of the administration of Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, to extend a helping hand to those affected by such calamities. We will convene immediate discussions with the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the Hydro Power Producing Development Areas Commission (HYPPADEC) to explore avenues to aid the victims,” he assured.

Alhaji Shafi’u Zauro, the Special Adviser on Special Duties to the governor and an indigene of Zauro, also emphasized the Governor’s directive to promptly mobilize SEMA and other relevant authorities to conduct an on-the-spot assessment and provide necessary assistance to those affected.

In a similar vein, the Executive Director of SEMA, Engr. Abbas Rabi’u Kamba, stated that the agency has already begun the process of evaluating the extent of the damage and compiling a comprehensive inventory of the affected individuals.

This crucial step will facilitate the distribution of essential items, such as food and building materials, to the victims.

Alhaji Abbas Kamba further urged both urban and rural dwellers to prioritize tree planting as a proactive measure to mitigate the impact of windstorms, emphasizing the importance of environmental consciousness.

The Managing Director of HYPPADEC, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa Katuka, affirmed the commission’s commitment to collaborating with SEMA in providing much-needed relief to the victims.

He commended the swift response and presence of the Kebbi State Government at the scene of the incident.

One of the affected victims, Alhaji Aliyu Tsoho Zauro, recounted the terrifying experience of witnessing his house being destroyed amidst strong winds and thunderous roars.
