The New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) has made an announcement calling for the cancellation of the presidential and National Assembly elections held on February 25th.

Joining the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party, the NNPP has urged for a new election to be conducted as soon as possible, citing the stability and security of the country as paramount.

The National Chairman of the party, Prof. Rufai Alkali, emphasized that the present election results must not be accepted and urged for the immediate suspension of the announcement of results.

The NNPP has called on all Nigerians and friends of Nigeria to support their cause and work towards saving democracy and the country.

The NNPP accused the Independent National Electoral Commission of “deliberate undermining of the NNPP” in the election’s conduct.

Other reasons given by the NNPP for INEC’s cancellation of the election are the display of ballot papers after voting by President Muhammadu Buhari and others, which the party claims is a form of election day campaigning. They also expressed concerns about voter suppression, vote buying, BVAS failure and over-voting, “INEC lies about the iRev server,” and violence.

Ifeanyi Okowa, vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and his Labour Party (LP) counterpart, Datti Baba-Ahmed, had earlier called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to cancel the election.
