The Lagos State Safety Commission has issued a stern warning to the public regarding the increasing number of individuals impersonating its staff or consultants.

The commission urges Lagosians to be vigilant and refrain from making any payments into personal accounts, emphasizing that all financial transactions should be made exclusively through designated government accounts.

Lanre Mojola, the Director-General of the Commission, stressed the importance of this cautionary message in light of numerous reported cases involving deceitful individuals falsely claiming to represent the Commission.

These impostors manipulate unsuspecting members of the public into depositing funds into their personal accounts, capitalizing on their trust.

Mojola asserted that the State Government does not maintain individual accounts for official transactions.

Therefore, anyone requesting payment into such accounts should be aware that these individuals do not represent the Lagos State Safety Commission.

To counteract this issue, the Commission has implemented rigorous measures to combat the activities of compromised consultants

. Legal actions have been taken against impersonators, and agreements with unscrupulous consultants have been terminated, according to Mojola.

Highlighting a recent conviction and imprisonment of an impersonator, Mojola disclosed that all authorized consultants possess identification cards that must be worn at all times during audits or inspections of organizations.

The Director-General urged the public to promptly report any suspicious activities involving officials, consultants, or impersonators of the Commission. Reports can be made by contacting the government hotline at 07000SAFETY or 08181002233.

Mojola reiterated the Commission’s responsibilities, which include issuing and revoking safety compliance certificates, conducting and reviewing risk assessment reports, investigating safety concerns, providing recommendations, and coordinating all government matters pertaining to the safety of lives and properties within the state.

In addition, the Commission formulates safety-related policies, offers advisory services, acts as the regulatory body for safety issues, coordinates and monitors the activities of relevant safety organizations in the state, appoints consultants when necessary, and fosters effective interaction, networking, and collaboration with relevant government agencies on safety matters.
