Livingston and Raith Rovers missed an opportunity to make significant strides in the Scottish Championship promotion race, settling for a 0-0 draw in a hard-fought encounter.

In front of 1,331 spectators, Livi nearly broke the deadlock in the 55th minute when Christian Montano fired over from 12 yards after Raith struggled to clear a Robbie Muirhead cross.

Raith’s Finlay Pollock had a golden chance, only for Livingston goalkeeper Jerome Prior to deny the Hearts loanee with a crucial save.

Ryan McGowan thought he had snatched a late winner for Raith, bundling the ball home, but the flag went up for offside. In the dying moments, his header from six yards was comfortably gathered by Rovers keeper Joshua Rae.

The result leaves Livingston three points behind leaders Falkirk and level with second-placed Ayr United, having played a game more. Raith climb to fifth, one point above Queen’s Park and four behind Partick Thistle, who hold the final play-off spot.

Managers React

Livingston boss David Martindale: “That’s 11 unbeaten for us. We did enough to win, dominated large parts, and played decent football. Of course, I’m disappointed, but we’re still in the hunt for automatic promotion. Falkirk and Ayr United have been excellent, but I expect all three of us to drop points before the season ends.”

Raith Rovers manager Barry Robson: “This is one of the hardest places to come and play in Scotland. We pressed well and limited them to a few chances. We probably had the best opportunities, so I’m pleased with the clean sheet and the point. When we cut out mistakes, we’re a very good side.”
