Daniel Edem Okon, a 23-year-old from Ibiono Ibom in Akwa Ibom State, has admitted to murdering a commercial motorcyclist, Saviour Anthony Effiong, and burying him in a shallow grave. Speaking at the police headquarters in Uyo, Okon revealed he killed Effiong to steal his motorcycle for resale.
Police Commissioner Waheed Ayilara, during a press briefing, noted Okon’s arrest followed a routine stop and search. Authorities discovered the body after Okon’s confession and recovered the stolen motorcycle.
The police chief also announced the arrest of several suspects in various criminal cases, including a major robbery at Ibom Tropicana and vandalism of electric infrastructure. Ayilara urged commercial motorcyclists to avoid isolated areas to prevent similar incidents.
