French striker Kylian Mbappe has reportedly rejected “several tens of millions” in bonuses to facilitate a potential departure from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), according to a source involved in the negotiations.

The agreement, reached last summer, sees Mbappe relinquishing bonuses totaling approximately 60 to 70 million euros ($65.6 million to $76.6 million), providing financial stability for PSG in anticipation of his likely departure when his contract concludes in June.

Contrary to reports suggesting an 80 million euro ‘loyalty’ bonus and additional bonuses totaling 100 million euros, the negotiating source refutes these figures. Mbappe, who remains undecided about his future, highlighted the importance of the agreement in preserving peace for the club in light of upcoming challenges after PSG’s Champions Trophy victory.

The arrangement ensures PSG’s coverage if Mbappe decides to leave without a transfer fee. Mbappe’s 2022 contract reportedly includes a yearly salary of 72 million euros, a signing bonus of 150 million euros, and a loyalty bonus escalating from 70 million euros in the first year to 90 million in the third.

By staying in Paris until June without extending his contract, Mbappe could have secured a payment exceeding 200 million euros. While no immediate reaction was available from Mbappe’s entourage, PSG declined to comment when contacted by AFP.
