In a devastating turn of events, three miners lost their lives in a shooting incident that occurred on Friday in the vicinity of Tanjol, located within the Jol community of Riyom Local Government Area in Plateau State.

The incident has sparked widespread fear and panic, leading to an exodus of miners and farmers from the area.

Rwang Tengwong, the National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Movement (BYM), provided confirmation of the distressing event to Daily Trust on Saturday. Tengwong revealed that the incident took place around 11 a.m., resulting in the tragic deaths of the three miners.

Furthermore, two additional individuals sustained injuries during the attack.

Expressing grave concern, Tengwong characterized the assault as part of a distressing trend of violence in the region.

He urgently appealed to both the government and security agencies to escalate their efforts in safeguarding the lives and property of residents in rural communities.

Despite the deployment of mobile police officers to the area, the spate of killings has continued unabated, according to Tengwong.

Efforts to reach DSP Alfred Alabo, the Public Relations Officer of the Plateau Police Command, were unsuccessful as multiple calls to his line went unanswered.

Nevertheless, a high-ranking police official has since confirmed the occurrence of the attack.

This tragic incident follows a recent surge in violence that has claimed the lives of over 200 individuals in various villages within the Mangu, Barikin Ladi, and Riyom Local Government Areas of Plateau State.

The escalating toll of these violent acts has underscored the pressing need for immediate and effective measures to restore peace and security in the region.
