Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Geoffrey Nnaji, has resigned from office following allegations of certificate forgery leveled against him.
The development was confirmed on Tuesday by President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who disclosed that the President has accepted Nnaji’s resignation.
“President Tinubu accepted the resignation of Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, following some allegations against him,” Onanuga said in a statement.
He noted that Nnaji, who was appointed in August 2023, tendered his resignation in a letter addressed to the President, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve.
According to Onanuga, the former minister attributed his decision to what he described as sustained “blackmail by political opponents.”
“President Tinubu thanked him for his service and wished him success in his future endeavours,” the statement added.
Nnaji’s resignation comes amid growing scrutiny of public officials over document authenticity and integrity in federal appointments.
