A part-time musician and animal lover from South Africa is gaining worldwide fame for a parody song poking fun at Donald Trump’s bizarre claim that Haitian immigrants are eating cats and dogs in Ohio.
David Scott, better known by his stage name *The Kiffness*, released the satirical track “Eating the Cats,” which sets to music Trump’s comments during a presidential debate. The song, viewed more than 8.7 million times on YouTube in just 12 days, humorously tackles Trump’s claim that migrants are eating America’s pets.
In the song, Scott pleads, “People of Springfield please don’t eat my cat,” while offering alternative food options like broccoli and poached eggs. The playful video also features Trump’s debate rival Kamala Harris reacting to the outlandish statement, alongside a chorus of cats and dogs.
Scott, known for his feel-good music about pets and children, said his goal isn’t to attack anyone but to bring some lightheartedness to a divisive issue. “Music can take away negative energy, especially with someone like Trump, who’s such a polarizing figure,” Scott told AFP. He added that he hopes his music unites people, especially through shared love for animals.
Scott is donating all proceeds from the song to help stray cats and dogs in Springfield, Ohio, with over $20,000 raised so far.
Despite no evidence supporting Trump’s claims, Ohio senator JD Vance has continued to push the narrative, leading to backlash from Haitian groups in Springfield who filed charges against both Trump and Vance for inciting threats against their community.
