National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Iyorchia Ayu, has resigned from his position following the Benue State High Court in Makurdi’s decision to uphold his suspension on Monday.
Ayu intends to challenge the suspension in court, as disclosed by his Special Assistant on Communication, Simon Imobo-tswam.
In response to Ayu’s suspension, Umar Damagum Ayu has been appointed as the acting national chairman.
The suspension was made by the Igorov ward executive committee in the Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State, citing alleged anti-party activities and non-payment of membership fees.
Ayu was also prohibited from representing himself as the party’s chairman after being suspended in a lawsuit filed by Conrad Utaan, a former aide to the state’s governor.
The hearing has been postponed until April 17th.
Ayu’s supporters from Igyorev ward demonstrated at the party headquarters, passing a vote of confidence in him and disclaiming a letter of vote of no confidence and suspension.
