The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it has arrested a 27-year-old man in Kano with nine kilograms of Cannabis Sativa, popularly known as Colorado, valued at more than ₦10 million.
In a statement on Saturday, the agency’s Kano Command spokesperson, Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, said the suspect, Umar Adamu-Umar, was intercepted on August 6 along the Zaria–Kano Road by operatives attached to the Kiru Area Command.
Adamu-Umar, a resident of Fagge Local Government Area, was allegedly transporting 19 parcels of the substance from Lagos to Kano when he was apprehended.
“The suspect confessed to being involved in the illegal drug trade and had been under surveillance by the command for some time,” Muhammad-Maigatari said.
He added that the seizure dealt a significant financial blow to the trafficking network by cutting off revenue, disrupting supply lines, and reducing funds available for other criminal activities.
“Removing this quantity from circulation also helps protect vulnerable communities from the social and economic harms associated with narcotics,” he said.
The command, under the leadership of Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, pledged to intensify intelligence-led operations and patrols across the state to curb drug trafficking.
