The House of Representatives Committee on University Education has pledged to put an end to the persistent strikes in Nigerian universities. During a meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, Committee Chairman Rep. Abubakar Fulata emphasized the need for collective efforts to address challenges such as strike actions, cultism, insecurity, drug peddling, and immoral acts in university education.
The committee, created under the new government, aspires to ensure quality, reliability, easy access, and a rewarding university education. The National University Commission (NUC) Executive Secretary and Vice-Chancellors of federal universities were present at the meeting, expressing optimism that the National Assembly’s commitment would help address these issues. Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, speaking for the Vice-Chancellors, highlighted the potential for Nigerian universities to become the best in Africa.
