The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the appointment of CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori as the new Commissioner of Police for Kano State, a move that comes as part of efforts to reinvigorate security in one of Nigeria’s busiest urban centers. Bakori, who hails from Katsina State, replaces CP Salman Garba Dogo, who has been promoted to Assistant Inspector General of Police.

CP Bakori brings a wealth of experience from a diverse career in law enforcement. Prior to his appointment, he served as Commissioner of Police, Homicide, at the Force Investigation Department in Abuja. His resume also includes roles as Commander of the Bayelsa State Joint Task Force (Operation Doo Akpo) in Yenagoa, Assistant Commissioner at both the Special Protection Unit in Abuja and the Criminal Investigation Departments in Bayelsa and Rivers States, as well as Principal Staff Officer to the Inspector General of Police and Commanding Officer of the 17 PMF in Akure.

In a statement, retired DIG Hashimu Argungu, Chairman of the PSC, urged the new commissioner to “quickly settle into the challenging task before you, ensuring that crime and criminality are brought to an end while promoting freedom of movement and security of enterprise.” He also stressed the importance of conducting a detailed crime mapping of Kano State to tailor a focused security strategy for the region.

The PSC has pledged to monitor CP Bakori’s progress closely and will provide the necessary support to ensure his success. The approval has been forwarded to the Inspector General of Police for immediate implementation, as confirmed in a letter signed by Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, Secretary to the Commission.

As Kano State continues to grapple with security challenges, many hope that CP Bakori’s extensive field experience and strategic vision will help restore peace and bolster public confidence in the police force.
