In a strong condemnation of any move to disrupt Nigeria’s democracy, the Nigeria Governors’ Forum consisting of 36 state governors, has urged the Department of State Services (DSS) to immediately arrest and prosecute individuals behind the alleged plot to establish an interim government.
This call came after the DSS confirmed that a group of political figures planned to install an interim government, including through sponsoring mass protests or obtaining a court injunction to stop the inauguration of elected leaders.
The NGF’s chairman, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, warned against issuing statements without arrests, as it could increase tension in the country.
The governors pledged to defend Nigeria’s democracy and resist any unconstitutional means of regime change.
