The Federal Government has formally launched the End-of-Life Vehicle (ELV) Regulation, a policy aimed at curbing environmental hazards from aging cars while transforming waste into economic opportunities.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Lagos, Minister of State for Industry, Trade, and Investment, Sen. John Enoh, said Nigeria must tap into the $60 billion global vehicle recycling industry. With 400,000 used cars imported annually, he warned of the environmental risks posed by unchecked vehicle waste.

“Waste is no longer just waste—it’s an untapped resource,” Enoh said, emphasizing the need for immediate action.

The regulation, championed by the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), is expected to create at least 40,000 jobs and drive technological innovation in recycling and green entrepreneurship.
