The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Southwest zone has confirmed that there were no casualties in the building collapse that occurred at Sango Police Barracks, Ibadan.

According to Mr. Saheed Akiode, the Southwest Zonal Coordinator of NEMA, the incident affected a total of 28 flats and resulted in the displacement of over 168 persons.

Mr. Akiode disclosed that the NEMA Southwest Zonal Office received a distress alert at about 6.00pm on Saturday, 22nd April 2023, concerning the collapsed building at Nigeria Police Barrack block 11, Sango, Ibadan.

He further stated that the Zonal Coordinator quickly activated the Federal and State Fire Service and other response agencies to the scene of the incident.

Mr. Akiode also mentioned that the Zonal Coordinator coordinated the rescue operation and the evacuation of the building as well as the surrounding buildings.

He stated that the operation was successful, and although the evacuation activities were still ongoing, no casualties were recorded at the scene.

The collapsed two-story building affected a total of 28 flats and displaced over 168 persons, according to Mr. Akiode.
