Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has issued a stern warning to newly nominated commissioners: celebrate in your hometowns, not in Uyo—or risk immediate removal.
The governor delivered the message on Thursday during the inauguration of the Bureau of Statistics Board and the Labour and Industrial Committee at the Government House Banquet Hall, Uyo.
Governor Eno insisted that any nominee found hosting celebratory parties in the state capital would face swift consequences. “Go to your villages. Let your people see you. The State Security Director will monitor all of you. If you hold your party in Uyo, I will remove you the next day,” he warned.
The governor’s directive aims to strengthen grassroots engagement, urging nominees to celebrate their appointments within their local government areas. “I would rather you thank God for the privilege to serve,” Eno advised. “When you finish your tenure, we can celebrate your achievements, just like we did the last time.”
He further announced plans to monitor commissioners’ visits to their communities, ensuring they stay connected with their constituents.
Meanwhile, Governor Eno congratulated the newly appointed Special Adviser on Labour Relations, Sir Udo Kieran Akpan. He emphasized that the Bureau of Statistics would track contractors to ensure they prioritize local employment over outsourcing.
As the governor tightens expectations, all eyes will be on the nominees—not at Uyo’s party halls, but in their hometowns, where their service truly begins.
