Prominent figures in the Northeast region have expressed their admiration for the accomplishments of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration in improving security conditions.
Representatives from various sectors, in Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe states, have lauded the administration’s commendable efforts in dismantling insurgent groups and reinstating peace in the region.
These stakeholders have praised the military and other security agencies for their crucial roles in the fight against insurgency, while urging the incoming administration to maintain the momentum to ensure lasting peace and security in the area.
“Over the past years, the security situation in the Northeast has witnessed remarkable improvement,” stated Samaila Ibrahim, a commercial bus driver. “Highway attacks have become infrequent, and the number of security checkpoints has been reduced.”
Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno, the epicenter of the insurgency, acknowledged the positive impact of enhanced security, which has facilitated the gradual return to normalcy in the state.
“People can now safely access their farms and harvest their crops without fear,” he remarked. “The government has also provided support to farmers, resulting in a bountiful harvest this year.”
Dr. Mahdi Abba, a security expert at Modibbo Adama University in Yola, Adamawa State, emphasized the significant progress made by the Buhari administration in bolstering security in the Northeast.
“When President Buhari assumed office in 2015, the situation in the Northeast was extremely dire,” he recalled. “However, through his tireless efforts, the region has experienced a notable enhancement in security.”
DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, the spokesperson for the Yobe State Police Command, attributed the improved security situation in the Northeast to the government’s support of security agencies and the enhanced collaboration among them.
“Joint operations and intelligence sharing among different agencies have played a vital role in weakening the insurgents and reducing their influence,” he explained.
Dr. Lawan Cheri, an expert in peace studies and conflict management, also expressed contentment with the Buhari administration’s endeavors to improve security in the Northeast.
“The administration has adequately equipped the security agencies and provided them with the necessary backing to combat insurgency,” he affirmed.
Cheri, a senior lecturer at the Federal Polytechnic, Damaturu, called upon the incoming administration led by President-elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to sustain the progress achieved in the Northeast and address security challenges in other regions.
