In a significant breakthrough, the Imo State Police Command has successfully apprehended five notorious armed robbery suspects who have been instilling fear in the city of Owerri and its surrounding areas.
ASP Henry Okoye, the command’s spokesperson, made the announcement in a press statement issued to the media on Monday.
He revealed that the suspects were captured by the command’s Tactical Team at approximately 4:30 p.m. on June 16.
Identifying the arrested individuals, Okoye disclosed their names as David Christopher (19), Sheriff Abraham (19), Emmanuel Akala (27), Sanusi Umar (20), and Mohammed Ashiru (20).
During the course of the investigation, the suspects willingly provided statements, admitting their involvement in various armed robbery incidents within the Owerri West Local Government Area.
Acting on the information provided by the suspects, the police team swiftly conducted a search at their criminal hideout located in Ama Hausa, Avu, Owerri West Local Government Area.
The search yielded two locally-made pistols, live ammunition, a multitude of mobile phones, and other incriminating items.
Efforts are currently underway to apprehend the remaining members of the syndicate who are still at large.
The suspects will face prosecution once a discreet investigation is completed, according to Okoye.
Mr. Mohammed Barde, the Commissioner of Police, has assured the public of the command’s unwavering commitment to eradicating all criminal elements from the state.
Okoye urged residents to collaborate with the police and other security agencies in the collective fight against criminal activities.
