The National Universities Commission (NUC) has published a list of 58 institutions operating illegally across Nigeria, cautioning students and parents that certificates from such universities are worthless.

In a public notice on Friday, the Commission emphasised that none of the listed schools has accreditation to award degrees.

“For the avoidance of doubt, anybody who patronises or obtains any certificate from any of these illegal institutions does so at his or her own risk,” the NUC warned.

The regulatory body said security and law enforcement agencies have been notified to take action against operators of the fake universities. It also disclosed that investigations are underway into eight additional institutions suspected of running unauthorised degree programmes.
