The Osun State Police Command has detained eight people in connection with the alleged mutilation of a 16-year-old boy’s scrotum in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area.

Police spokesperson DSP Abiodun Ojelabi said in a statement on Monday that three of the suspects, residents of Apomu, went to cultivate farmland in Arademi, Ikire, on July 26. Two of them allegedly lured the boy into a nearby bush, cut open his abdomen in an apparent attempt to remove vital organs, and then severed his scrotum before fleeing when the victim cried out.

Officers responded promptly, taking the boy to hospital before he was transferred to University College Hospital in Ibadan for further treatment.

Ojelabi said investigations led to the arrest of the eight suspects. Other July arrests included two alleged cult members linked to Osun State Polytechnic, Iree; a man accused of robbing a victim of an iPhone 11 in Osogbo; a suspect found with a cut-to-size gun in Ede; and another arrested for stealing a motorcycle from a mosque.

Police said all suspects would be charged to court once investigations are complete.
