In an effort to ensure the smooth inauguration of the 10th Assembly in Ogun State, Lukmon Atobatele, a member-elect of the Ogun State House of Assembly representing the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), has called on the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to address its internal conflicts.
Atobatele emphasized the need for the APC to stop attributing blame to the newly elected PDP members regarding the selection of the Speaker and other principal officers.
Atobatele, who recently secured victory in the Abeokuta South State Constituency 1, clarified that the PDP members-elect should not be associated with the ongoing dispute over the leadership positions in the State Assembly.
He dismissed speculations that the PDP caucus supports either Olakunle Oluomo or Elemide Oludaisi, both from the APC, for the position of Speaker, highlighting that the PDP’s primary focus is not on who assumes that role.
In Atobatele’s words, “Our primary concern is to familiarize ourselves with the Assembly’s operations, in accordance with established rules and guidelines, to effectively serve our constituents and safeguard their interests.”
He further expressed that as a minority group, they cannot dictate to the majority and discredited assumptions that they would endorse Elemide over former Speaker Oluomo, considering they belong to different political parties.
Atobatele acknowledged that rumors are to be expected in such situations.
Atobatele strongly condemned the sudden postponement of the 10th Assembly’s inauguration and assured that the PDP caucus is committed to working cohesively for the welfare of their constituents and the people of Ogun State.
