Stakeholders pledge joint action to restore peace and rebuild trust in affected communities

Governor Caleb Mutfwang has convened a high-level meeting with former state leaders and key stakeholders in a renewed effort to tackle worsening security challenges in Plateau State.

The closed-door session, held at Government House in Little Rayfield, Jos, brought together former governors Simon Bako Lalong, Jonah David Jang and Joshua Chibi Dariye, alongside former military administrator Samuel Bitrus Atukum, among other prominent figures.

In a post on his verified Facebook page, Mutfwang said discussions centred on the well-being and development of Plateau residents, with particular attention to the recent wave of violent attacks in rural communities.

Sources at Government House indicated that participants undertook a detailed review of the state’s security situation, expressing concern over the continued loss of lives and destruction of property in affected areas.

Despite the gravity of the challenges, those in attendance agreed on a collective approach to addressing the crisis. The meeting resolved to promote sustainable peace, strengthen unity and encourage harmonious coexistence among communities.

There was also consensus on the need to pursue justice for victims, while establishing frameworks that reflect values such as courage, discipline and patriotism long associated with the state.

Part of the resolutions included rebuilding strained relationships between communities and restoring trust as a foundation for long-term stability.

Governor Mutfwang described the engagement as a significant step towards confronting the security situation and repositioning the state for growth. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to restoring Plateau’s identity as the “Home of Peace and Prosperity,” adding that the deliberations would lead to concrete actions.

The meeting comes amid heightened concern over insecurity in parts of the state, as authorities intensify collaboration with security agencies and community leaders in a bid to restore calm.
