Prince Harry will return to the United Kingdom on September 8 to attend the WellChild Awards, coinciding with the third anniversary of the death of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.

“Prince Harry will be celebrating 20 years of the WellChild Awards in London on 8th September,” the charity announced. The event honours children living with serious illnesses, their families, and caregivers.

“I am always privileged to attend the WellChild Awards and meet the incredible children, families and professionals who inspire us all with their strength and spirit,” Harry, a patron of the charity since 2007, said in a statement.

The visit is likely to fuel speculation over whether the estranged duke will reconnect with the royal family. Prospects remain uncertain, however, after Harry admitted in May that his father, King Charles III, had stopped speaking to him amid ongoing legal disputes and the fallout from his memoir.

Harry, 40, has lived in California with his wife, Meghan, and their two children since stepping down as a senior royal in 2020. His trips back to Britain have mostly been for court cases or charity events.

Relations with his brother, Prince William, have also deteriorated, with the pair reportedly not on speaking terms. They were last seen together at Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in 2022 but have since kept their distance.

In May, Harry said a court ruling against restoring government-funded security made him feel unable to return to the UK with his family, though he expressed hope of reconciling with his father.
