Pastor Reno Omokri, former aide to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, asserts that the current surge in insecurity in Nigeria is a consequence of the failure to rearrest terrorists who were unlawfully freed during a jailbreak in Kuje prisons on July 5, 2022, under the administration of ex-president Muhammadu Buhari.

Omokri highlights that despite the invasion of Kuje prisons by hundreds of terrorists on motorcycles, wherein over 600 out of 900 inmates were reportedly freed, the Buhari administration did not take action to rearrest these individuals. According to him, this failure has contributed to the worsening state of insecurity in Nigeria.

Taking a dig at some politicians from the previous administration, including Islamic Scholar Isa Pantami, Omokri argues that they lack the moral high ground to claim that Nigeria faces worse insecurity under President Tinubu than it did under ex-president Buhari.

Omokri contends that the current security situation is an improvement compared to the Buhari era, citing a reduction in jailbreaks, airport invasions, and train bombings. He also notes a decrease in oil thefts and an increase in oil production to approximately 2 million barrels per day. Additionally, he points out the absence of police station destruction in the Southeast since the end of Buhari’s regime.
