The House of Representatives has completed the composition of its minority leadership following the nomination and endorsement of three lawmakers to fill vacant principal officer positions.
The appointments were announced during plenary on Thursday after minority members of the 10th House presented a consensus list for the positions of minority leader, deputy minority leader and minority whip.
Under the arrangement, Frederick Agbedi emerged as minority leader, while Abdulsamad Dasuki was named deputy minority leader. Mansur Soro was appointed minority whip.
Presiding over the session, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas formally announced the nominations and declared the positions filled.
“Today, the body of principal officers is complete,” Abbas said.
The Speaker congratulated the newly appointed leaders and assured them of the cooperation of the House leadership in advancing the legislative agenda of the 10th Assembly.
“I want to seize this opportunity, on behalf of the entire House, to congratulate the three persons and wish them all the best in their new positions,” he said.
The appointments followed consultations among opposition parties aimed at filling the vacant positions and strengthening the representation of the minority caucus within the House leadership structure.
With the latest appointments, both the majority and minority caucuses now have their full complement of principal officers, a move expected to improve legislative coordination and parliamentary oversight in the chamber.
