A group of retired generals has refuted recent reports of the release of former NYSC Director-General Brigadier General Maharazu Ismail Tsiga (Rtd), insisting that the general remains in captivity. Speaking on March 7, 2025, in Kaduna, retired Brigadier General Ismaila Abdullahi condemned what he described as “fake news” circulating in the media regarding Tsiga’s status.

“General M I Tsiga has not been released as I speak to you today,” Abdullahi declared on behalf of Tsiga’s family, friends, colleagues, and associates. He recalled that the former military leader was abducted from his residence in Tsiga town, Bakori LGA, Katsina State on February 5, 2025, and has been held by bandits in the bush for exactly 30 days.

Abdullahi expressed deep disappointment over the lack of response from key stakeholders. “General Tsiga is not an ordinary citizen. He served our country in various capacities—including two consecutive terms as the Director-General of NYSC—and we expected immediate concern and action from both the Federal Government and the Katsina State leadership,” he said.

He further criticized the leadership of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), of which Tsiga was a member. “While the ACF found time to issue statements on other political scandals, they have remained silent on the abduction of General Tsiga. This lack of empathy is unacceptable,” Abdullahi added.

The retired general also urged the Nigerian Army to pay a visit to Tsiga’s family. “A visit by a few officers would have gone a long way in easing the pain of his loved ones,” he noted, lamenting that no such gesture has been made in the 30 days since his abduction.

As reports of Tsiga’s release continue to circulate, his colleagues insist that these are unfounded rumors. They call on the government, the ACF, and the military to demonstrate genuine concern by taking prompt action to secure his safe return and support his family during this distressing time.
