Mohamed Salah, the forward for Liverpool and the Pharaohs of Egypt, expressed confidence in Liverpool’s strength despite his departure for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire.
After a stellar performance, scoring a brace in Liverpool’s 4-2 victory over Newcastle United, Salah emphasized the team’s quality and asserted that they can thrive even without him. Liverpool now faces the challenge of the Premier League title race without their star player.
Salah, enthusiastic about the upcoming AFCON, stated, “I want to win this competition, I would love to win it. But without me, I’m sure the [Liverpool] players will manage to win games.” He highlighted the depth of Liverpool’s squad and urged the players to focus on their football, assuring that there are capable individuals to fill his position.
The Pharaohs of Egypt, aiming for their eighth AFCON crown, are set to break a thirteen-year jinx and extend their dominance in African football. Drawn in Group B with Ghana, Mozambique, and Cape Verde, Salah expressed his joy in playing for the national team and conveyed his desire to secure victory in the tournament.
