The Senate continued its fifth day of screening ministerial nominees appointed by President Bola Tinubu. The screening session began at 3 pm and ended at 7.19 pm, with a brief break from 5.05 pm to 5.45 pm. The first nominee to undergo screening was Lola Ade-John from Lagos State.

Among the nominees screened on that day were Bosun Tijani from Ogun State, Dr. Isiak Salako from Ogun, Prof. Tahir Mamman from Adamawa, and Uba Maigari Ahmadu from Taraba. The upcoming legislative day, which is Monday, will see the screening of Dr. Mariya Mahmoud Mairiga from Kano and Festus Keyamo from Delta State.

During the screening, Bosun Tijani, the nominee from Ogun state, apologized for past tweets he made that were considered unpatriotic and derogatory towards Senators and Nigeria as a nation. Tijani explained that his tweets resulted from a frustrating experience with the Chinese Embassy and not from a lack of love for Nigeria.

Some Senators raised concerns about Tijani’s past tweets, but others intervened to defend him, highlighting his contributions to youth empowerment and Nigeria’s IT industry. The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, accepted Tijani’s apology and commended his efforts to improve Nigeria’s image and opportunities for young people.

The screening process covered 13 out of 19 nominees from the last list submitted by President Tinubu, with seven more remaining for the next session.
