Spain were crowned 2026 FIFA World Cup champions after defeating defending champions Argentina 1-0 in a dramatic final that went to extra time at MetLife Stadium.

A second-half extra-time strike from Ferran Torres sealed victory for La Roja, handing Spain their second FIFA World Cup title after an intense contest between two of international football’s biggest powers.

The final remained deadlocked throughout regulation time, with both sides creating chances but failing to find the breakthrough.

Torres eventually broke Argentina’s resistance in the second half of extra time, finishing clinically to send the Spanish supporters into celebration.

The Barcelona forward thought he had doubled Spain’s advantage moments later after racing through on goal and slotting into the bottom corner, but the effort was ruled out for offside.

Argentina pushed for a late equaliser in the closing minutes, but Spain’s defence stood firm to preserve their narrow lead.

At the final whistle, jubilant Spanish players and fans erupted in celebration as La Roja ended Argentina’s reign as world champions and lifted the FIFA World Cup trophy for the second time in the nation’s history.
