Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro, expressed his belief that Nigeria’s team outperformed Equatorial Guinea’s opponents despite the 1-1 draw at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire. Peseiro acknowledged his team’s efforts but attributed the draw to unfortunate circumstances.

While satisfied with his players’ overall performance, Peseiro expressed disappointment in their inability to convert numerous goal-scoring opportunities. He emphasized the team’s determination to secure a victory in the next match, acknowledging the need for improved finishing.

Peseiro mentioned his dissatisfaction with the draw, stating, “I deserved to win; this draw doesn’t suit us.” Looking ahead, he highlighted the importance of refining their finishing skills to capitalize on future opportunities.

The Super Eagles are set to face hosts Côte d’Ivoire in their second game, with the match scheduled for Thursday at the Stade Olympique Alassane Ouattara in Ebimpe at 5 p.m. The outcome of this crucial match will significantly impact the Super Eagles’ standing in the tournament.

Nigeria, making its 20th appearance at the CAF Africa Cup of Nations, aims to build on its three previous tournament victories (1980, 1994, and 2013). Equatorial Guinea, in their fourth AFCON appearance, seeks to replicate their past success by reaching the knockout stages.
