The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended three individuals suspected of involvement in criminal conspiracy, threat to life, criminal intimidation, and attempted kidnapping. SP Ahmed Wakil, the Command’s spokesperson, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Bauchi.

According to the statement, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU) of the Criminal Investigation Department received a complaint from one Yahaya Adamu, a resident of Badakoshi village in Bauchi LGA. Adamu reported that on March 4, he received a threatening phone call from an anonymous individual demanding a sum of N5 million. The caller threatened to kidnap either Adamu or his family members if the money was not paid.

In a subsequent communication, the suspected kidnappers provided their account details and used a Point of Sale (POS) business account to facilitate the transaction. They further demonstrated knowledge of Adamu’s assets and family members, increasing the intimidation.

Upon receiving the intelligence, Commissioner of Police, Mr. Auwal Musa, directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to launch a discreet investigation into the matter. Using modern technology, the CID successfully traced and apprehended the suspects: Haro Adamu, Aliyu Saidu, and Musa Umaru, all residents of Birnin Kudu town in Jigawa State.

The suspects were arrested in Birnin Kudu town, Jigawa State, and Kaltunga via Plateau State. During interrogation, they reportedly confessed to the alleged criminal activities.

SP Wakil confirmed that the suspects would be charged to court for prosecution, underscoring the commitment of the Bauchi State Police Command to combatting kidnapping and other heinous crimes in the state.
