A TikTok content creator, Emmanuel Ajibade, was arraigned on Thursday before an Akure Magistrates’ Court for allegedly cyberbullying a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Taiwo Oniyere, told the court that Ajibade, along with accomplices still at large, allegedly conspired to commit cyberstalking, cyberbullying, and criminal defamation against one Ibitoye Samuel, an FRSC official.

According to the prosecution, Ajibade used the TikTok account checkers69 to spread false and defamatory content aimed at causing public annoyance, insult, and psychological distress to the officer. The alleged offense took place at the Higher Height Area of Orita Obele in Akure.

The police described Ajibade’s actions as “intimidating” and said they had incited “hatred, ill will, and needless anxiety” toward the FRSC official. The charges were brought under Section 27(b) and Section 24(b) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition and Prevention) Act of 2015.

Inspector Oniyere urged the court to remand the defendant at a Correctional Centre, citing Section 269(2)(b) of the law.

Ajibade’s legal counsel, Mr. A. F. Awala, requested a short adjournment to enable the defense to file a counter affidavit in response to the prosecution’s application.

Chief Magistrate Olateju Odenusi-Fadeyi ordered that Ajibade be remanded at the SWAT Police Station and instructed that his medical needs be properly addressed. The case was adjourned until April 30, 2025, for further mention.
